1. Review your app settings

Introduce your internal team to the steps for bringing students onto Hero.

1. Share your plan and best practice guidelines with staff
   • Inform your staff of the school’s plan for bringing students onto Hero and who to seek assistance from.
   • Set and share school-wide expectations around the frequency, timing and content of student posts. E.g Should a student post be unedited ideas or an edited and proof-read post?

Make it easy for students to log into Hero and add learning content.

1. Set up the app and log in.
   • Ask students to download the Hero by LINC-ED app onto their tablet or to bookmark go.linc-ed.com on their laptop.

2. Teach your students how to use Hero.

   • Hero Student Challenge for junior students: Add QR codes to the Hero Student Challenge that link to short screencasts demonstrating each “I can …” task. Students can watch the videos on a tablet to assist with comprehension.
3. Share your expectations for posting with students and provide scaffolds for this.
   • Create scaffolds such as post sentence starters to help students write posts. A rubric could be developed to extend this e.g. “I can write a post that describes what is in my picture”, “ I can write a post that describes what is in my picture and reflects on my learnings”, “ I can write a post that describes what is in my picture, reflects on my learnings and explains what I would do differently next time.”

4. Encourage parents to engage with learning goals and posts by adding a ‘like’ or ‘comment’.

Regular review, reflect and update:

1. Undertake a review of student engagement.
   • Survey your students to gather feedback on their use of the Hero app.
2. Undertake a review of staff use of the Student Feed and Super Simple Survey features to ensure best practice.
   • Is all communication being sent through the one channel - Hero?
   • Are the teachers communicating with students regularly via Hero posts and use of the Student Feed?
   • Is the timing and frequency of posts appropriate?
   • Is the Super Simple Survey feature being used to gather student understanding of tasks? Student wellbeing?
